Stand Out Tartan and Check Suits
There is no doubt that Mr Pharrell Williams is one of the most stylish men on the planet. From oversized shorts, the most fashion forward sneakers and a stunning array of diamonds, he is always superbly turned out. When Pharrell got married to Helen Laischanh, the record producer extraordinaire defied convention and opted for a plaid suit to be married in. The suit that Pharrell wore was a bold red and black tartan one with black satin lapels, which he paired with a classic white dress shirt and simple silk black bow tie.
Check & Tartan Suits are a bold and dramatic suit choice but they are surprisingly easy to wear. The right suit of choice lies in choosing a colour and check that suits you and your shape. The Hoffman skinny suit in grey is one of our most popular choices. It’s great for this time of year when its between seasons as the grey is a really flattering shade. It is 60% wool so if the air-con breaks down, drop the blazer and keep the suave waistcoat on.
The Ginger skinny fit tartan suit is a similar design that is a lighter, brighter, maybe more spring-ready style. Style with a crisp and slim fitting white shirt, and smart tan Chelsea boots for a cool and modern version of a traditional check design.
Of course, we understand that bold camel designs and striking grey on blue checks might not be for everyone. For a more conservative gent, think about a darker design, like the aforementioned Ginger but this time in a burgundy tartan. It’s still a statement suit but not quite so bold, with a simple black and dark red tartan design. The Ginger also comes in a green tartan. Dress down with just the trousers and a shirt or T-shirt or wear the full suit at a formal event like a wedding or a christening.
There is no doubt that the choice of tartan and check suits can create a dramatic effect. If you want to make a similarly bold and unconventional statement, a plaid suit may be the one for you. One word of caution – the bolder the plaid, the simpler the accessories should be. If you pick a bold and colourful print (such as tartan), it would look great with a plain white shirt and a matching or plain tie.
